The Yin and Yang of Ceramics: The Power of Black and White
Ceramics 2 has helped me to express my creativity in a unique way. I never thought about taking ceramics, but after my friends talked me into it, I ended up loving it and spending a lot of time throwing on the wheel, and perfecting my craft. I love experimenting with different techniques, and horse hair raku and crackle glaze raku are two of my favorites. Horse hair raku is a process where the hair is applied to the hot surface of the pottery, leaving behind a beautiful, black, and organic pattern on the crisp white surface. Crackled glaze raku, on the other hand, creates a stunning network of black cracks across the surface of the piece. I find that these two techniques complement each other perfectly, creating a unique and striking visual effect. Ceramics has given me an outlet from the stress of school, allowing me to express myself creatively and relax. My goal with each piece is to create something that is not only visually stunning, but also functional. I hope that my work inspires others to explore the possibilities of ceramics and to appreciate the beauty of handmade art. Moving forward, I plan to take my skills further into IB art, continuing to experiment with new techniques and push my creativity to new heights.
